Which adds another degree of tension while walking over them - who wants to wake up a napping Hive Soldier in an enclosed space? Team Cherry said these Hivehomes might have had sleeping bees in them. These cells were a feature that had been thought of by the devs but wasn't implemented due to time constraints. They might not even have floors and just be secret doors to other rooms. It wouldn't be big and can easily be climbed out of, but besides providing a speedrunning challenge the cells may be inhabited by mites or vicious bee larvae. Running on them would keep you from breaking the lid but if you stop moving you'll fall through and into the cell. Some of these cells would be closed and covered with a thin papery lid, hiding their contents. The honey in these cells would also refill your health and Soul but wouldn't be a hazard. And I don't mean harm, I mean kill.Īnother idea that suits the Hive is Hivehomes, the little honeycomb cells into which bees place their young, nectar, and honey. You'll have to strike down with your nail to free yourself and getting completely submerged will kill you. These would refill your health and Soul at half the speed of hot springs, but staying still will cause you to sink. I also came up with the idea of honey pits: literally just big pools of honey. In terms of platforming difficulty, probably more Queen's Gardens than White Palace. These can be parasitic mites - a real thing, by the way - although normal hoppers could fit the bill. Although you could add other non-bee enemies to spice things up. The idea is that bees carrying nectar to refine into honey would pass through here, right? Well these dungeons would also make use of their dedicated charm's properties: in this case it would be a challenging platforming segment to take advantage of Hiveblood's healing ability, since the charm makes bee enemies passive and thus negates the need for combat. Just like I mentioned using Spore Shroom to access mini-dungeons in Fungal Wastes, I think Hiveblood should access special challenges in the Hive through the use of nectar gates. But unlike the crystallized objects in Crystal Peak or the webbed objects in Deepnest I suggested in my previous thread, reaching these items would require sharp platforming skills. This idea of honeyed objects could be applied to more benches and chests as well. There was also a bench that was suspended from the ceiling in a large drop of solidified honey. This mechanic should definitely appear throughout the level as a way to progress - luring Guardians in to break through walls and floors, for example. I would mention the fragile platforms that can be destroyed with the huge Hive Guardians, but these only appear in two rooms. This level just feels tacked on and unactualized. Superman movie - a potential masterpiece that was criminally rushed. Today I will be going over the Hive, an area that in my opinion requires a massive makeover. Although the gameplay throughout most of these areas felt mostly the same they only needed a few touches here and there to make them unique. In my previous thread I went over most of the standard map regions. Welcome back to the discussion regarding the various areas of Hallownest.
